My Journey into Golf
My Journey into Golf
My journey into golf started when my late husband of 4 years ago surprisingly bought me a second hand set of golf clubs. These were accompanied with some introductory golf lessons shortly before he passed.
This was totally unexpected and rather uninspiring at the time! I could not quite understand or appreciate the gift. He was not a golfer or sportsperson making the gesture decidedly out of character.
His reasoning behind this was simply to give me something to focus upon going forwards knowing how much I loved the outdoor lifestyle. I was not quite sure at the time if the voucher would make it out of the drawer…
Golf Lessons
However, not being someone who-lets sleeping dogs lie I decided to embark upon the challenge, starting the journey locally with the lessons.
I dipped in and out of golf for three years not really knowing if I would or how to progress or move forwards.
Golf Schools
I met Sarah through one of her golf schools in Spain. She had kindly invited a PGA colleague who wanted to learn about running the schools. I headed off with four friends within our small group.
The day arrived I felt very apprehensive, physically sick and nervous with many questions “ I am not ready for this, I don’t want to embarrass myself”
Overcoming these feelings have allowed me to grow in confidence over time.
I heard more and more about Sarah Bennett Golf and the successful Coaching schools she has been running since setting up Golfing Girl in 2010.
I soon found out she has a large following of happy clients both male and female with her schools becoming booked up rather quickly.
Sarah’s meticulous attention to detail and empathetic coaching style ensures every client receives the best possible experience. This was evident during my first visit.
Women’s Golf Schools
I could never have anticipated the outcome of the week which subsequently resulted in my first SBG Women’s Long Haul Golf School.

The initial phone call booking my space with Sarah Bennett Golf Schools has certainly changed my life positively.
“Yvonne has a determination and passion to improve her golf. She possesses a fun filled character ready to accept there are no short cuts with the game, embracing both the highs and lows of the game.
You must be prepared to enjoy the lifelong journey which is just like a roller coaster ride. It’s the rise and falls which continuously challenges our improvement not possible on a straight flat road”
Yvonne “I’m not a natural golfer or athlete and certainly don’t have the strength or flexibility I used to have.
However, I have learnt that What you are or how you play really doesn’t mater. The feeling of inclusivity with like minded people and those in a similar situation is refreshing.
Motivational
I can’t get enough of the game, It’s given me a new way of life for me now. Thanks to Sarah, Golf and Women’s Golf Schools I have a direction which is exciting and motivational.
Golf is a sport of inclusivity, new friendships producing a zest for life. It’s huge fun whilst encompassing a wonderful sport with a massive learning curve, exercise and sense of belonging.

Here’s to many more years of golf with holidays with friends and Women’s Golf Schools. I am now travelling the world with my special golf buddies and new- found friends.
Thanks to Sarah’s guidance my understanding of the game has grown significantly in addition to my sense of community and belonging within Golfing Girl community.
Sarah “It has been an enormous pleasure to hear how working as a PGA Professional can impact someone’s life which started as a seemingly insignificant voucher. We are blessed to play such an incredible game filled with special values.
From a personal perspective golf has too become my saviour being told I would never play again due to a on going balance disorder. This incident paved the way and shaped my career as a Coach when I least expected it”
Thank you to Yvonne for your honesty and willingness to share your journey so openly. I wish you all the very best within your new found sport.
