Golfing girl Festive Golf Day

Well, today was proof that a few rain drops can’t dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of my annual Golfing Girl Festive Golf Day! It was a matter of last-minute re scheduling and planning with a few quizzes, jokes and all round good banter did not detract from the fantastic day.

We were fortunate that the back 9 of the Kings course were open which enabled my 7 groups of GolfingGirls to play 5 holes of Texas scramble format which is an ideal competition for all standard of player. It is the team spirit and the fact that everyone can feel as if they have contributed to the final result is why I have selected this format for the past 5 years. This is a firm favourite of ladies who have attended five of my events each year.

The mulled wine and mince pies are always a good introduction! forget the sticky name tags that peeled off after about 30 minutes after being exposed to the torrential rain. It is a learning curve playing in these conditions and certainly brought back memories of Tour life with suspension of play for up to 5 hours where it was vital you could cope both mentally and physically. The extra towels required in the golf bag and the important towel which should hang from the umbrella spokes is a necessity. I would always carry half a dozen spare gloves which would be sealed in a zip lock plastic bag to keep as dry as possible.

If it is windy remember not to point your umbrella in the direction so that it does not turn inside out! as one GolfingGirl found out…

We played a total of 4 holes before I called the ladies in from the saturated course, the lure of the coffee and excellent 2 course Christmas meal was one not to be missed. A few new games such as “heads” and “tails” were introduced which certainly let the clubhouse know Bennett’s Birdies were in town!

A few quizzes tested the ladies golf and Festive knowledge prior to the prize giving where the star prizes of my mother’s fantastic Christmas cake and hybrid head covers are the annual star attraction.

I was absolutely delighted with everyone’s commitment today and fantastic attitude  which made my organisation so much easier, along with the wonderful staff at the club. Every single player had a smile on their face which just shows the fabulous camaraderie that has been built up over the five years which I will endeavour to continue.

Thank you Ladies and see you all soon
