I believe the game of golf covering course management is underestimated with the staggering advancements of club technology and launch monitors tracking every possible figure a club fitter and elite golfer would wish to know.
However, the single component of "Course Management" can win and loose Majors or simply one of your Club events, so what exactly is course management? Read More
Thankfully we were blessed with a perfect Summer's day for our Olympic Golf for GolfingGirls Summer Festival which is one of the highlights of our calendar year with an Olympic twist.
I think the whole Olympic Golf coverage was a huge success with large crowds watching the Men's event which produced a really heart warming outcome. I am sure there were some who did not agree with the inclusion of golf within the 2016 Rio programme, however the interest based around Rose's superb win was amazing especially on the social media channels. I would have loved personally to see a "team" style option for the player's selected adding to the excitement of the occasion. I sincerely hope the new found interest in golf can be sustained with continued options provided to those new players who would now like to try the sport. Read More
An exciting week lies ahead for the Ricoh Women's British Open to be held on the stunning Marquess course at Woburn Golf & Country Club one of three gems the facility has to offer. The Marquess is a contrasting course in comparison to the Dukes and Duchess with approach shots requiring pin point accuracy both in distance control and placement. It will be a real treat to see the best in the world tame the tree lined beauty of Woburn, the question will be answered some Sunday evening "Can Charley win her first Major on home soil?"
I personally have many fond memories of the Woburn Country Club which stems back to one of my first Professional events held on the extremely narrow Duchess course in the early to mid 1990's. This is a real test of course management with well directed tee shots the order of play, for those who remember "Woody Woodpecker" the sound echoes across the fairways on a regular basis with very narrow tempting gaps which you may think a 1.68" golf ball should fit through!!! As we approach the winter months with limited daylight and practice opportunities, I wanted to give you a putting drill which can be practiced inside as well as outside. I have a number of drills which can be used inside so keep your eyes open for my blogs and newsletters.
I really rate this "low cost" putting drill which I learnt from Michael Breed a top USA PGA Coach. The drill is not about holing the putt so we do not even have to aim for the hole. The drill is all about the putting stroke, working to achieve a "square" putter face at the moment of impact with the ball which is critical in maintaining a solid, consistent strike producing effective distance control. Local Essex PGA Fellow Professional Sarah Bennett held her inaugural Golfing Generations in Essex family day at Three Rivers Golf and Country club on the 12th September.
The Golfing Generations was the brain child of Bennett who had hosted a similar event for the past three years on a smaller scale. Her vision to open the entries to the County and those from neighbouring Counties, to her delight one pair travelled from Hertfordshire to play in the well organised day. One young girl attended who was totally new to the game, was encouraged to “have a go” by another girl who Sarah has coached for 5 years. At the end of the day her father said “I have now been asked to buy some clubs and shoes so that my daughter can continue with the sport, I am absolutely delighted. She was disappointed we only played 9 holes!” Read More
