GolfingGirl Summer Event

Fortunately the weather behaved for my GolfingGirl Summer Event and we managed to complete a fun packed day consisting of plenty of giggles with finally no rain!

This event was a new addition to the GolfingGirl calendar by the request of my current ladies, I changed the format to incorporate all playing abilities and time of year. The feedback from the ladies attending suggested the format worked a treat, I even hired a photographer for the ladies to take advantage.. Read More

Putting on quick greens

I have been giving a number of specific short game lessons recently in particular putting sessions, which is very often omitted by the club golfer. There are numerous key elements which combine to produce the overall "good putter" label, I would like to discuss distance control & speed.

Putting has always baffled me from the psychological aspect as when we have a poor ball striking round or hit a few off centre tee shots the panic button is pressed, then everything we know about golf is applied to the next tee shot in an attempt to hit the fairway...(sound familiar!) I think we all know the possible outcome of this action! Read More

Spectating at the Open

Having just returned from a 5 day trip to the 144th Open held at St Andrews thought I would base my blog on my experiences of spectating at the Open, outside the ropes a which is totally different from playing inside the ropes, in fact it is much harder work!

As a former Ladies European Tour player and now coach I have an understanding and appreciation from both the degree of preparation which goes into such an event and the precision required to achieve the ultimate victory. The course mapping and planning is imperative with player, coach and caddy all working together as Fowler and Harmon demonstrate. Read More

Playing golf in the heat

This week much of the County will experience extreme temperatures and for many of us we have not become acclimatised during the past few months so must be aware how to continue to enjoy our round of golf.

When the temperature rises we generally loose out appetite but we must still continue with our chosen form of nutrition before, during and after our round of golf. Read More

Explanar in Essex

Well, the day finally arrived.. I was able to say I am a proud owner of an Explanar in Essex! It was a lovely day and a real pleasure to welcome  long life friend Luther Blacklock Master Professional and Head Professional at one of my all time favourite venues... Woburn. I have many fond memories of threading the ball through the winding trees both on the Dukes and Duchess courses. I turned Professional soon after winning the Moira Smyth Salver for the low Amateur at the Women's British Open in 1990 and played many Opens there. I was priviledged to play the Marquess course very recently which will be the venue of the Men's European Tour British Masters in October.

As a Coach and player the beauty of this game is the long life learning which occurs and it is this which keeps us coming back for more! I believe one key to successful coaching is imparting information in a variety of ways which the client can relate to and convert to results on their own. This was very evident yesterday with the use of the Explanar. Advantages of a practice ground

During my 25 years as a member of the Ladies European Tour competing world- wide one of the most important aspect was the skill transfer of technical and soft skills from the practice ground to the golf course. The "art" of practice is a completely different topic but the location where this occurs can have a bearing on this transfer of skills which requires discipline. I would like to share with you my views in which I believe are a few advantages of the practice ground compared to the traditional covered driving range.

I started my golf at a course with a grassed non covered area which looking back was hugely advantageous, there were certainly fewer driving ranges back in the 1980s compared to the many accessible ranges nowadays so I had little choice! The covered driving range certainly has its place in the development of golf and the player, however I am a fan of the practice bag armed with the commitment and desire to improve, replicating many more of the conditions faced on the actual golf course.
